Abstract
This media ethnography locates the state politics in the creation of regional identities through television. It is engaged with the media industry or the site of cultural production, (specifically, television studios) and attempts to analyse the workings of media professionals and artists through participant observation and interviews. Ethnographic content analysis is employed to understand the politics of representation in media texts and images. The playing of regional and intra-regional identities pitted against the national identity in the lives of the television viewers is documented, taking into consideration the regional disparities that prevail in the state of Odisha, India.
