Session 1: Sociology of elites

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 09:00-11:00
Chair: Jean-Pascal Daloz, Oxford University, UK, jean-pascal.daloz@politics.ox.ac.uk
Under Mattei DOGAN’s chairmanship, RC 20 has regularly produced original works on elites. This RC has also developed a special connection with the Research Committee on political elites (RC 2) of the International Political Science Association. Following this tradition, session 1 invites original contributions focusing on both political and social elites. It will particularly welcome studies on female elites, comparative theoretical works and presentation of results from large surveys.

Session 2: Current research in comparative sociology

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 11:30-13:30
Chair: Anne Krogstad, University of Oslo, Norway, anne.krogstad@sosiologi.uio.no
This session aims at putting together recent high-quality studies in the field of comparative sociology. Comparisons across time and space, binary as well as large scale comparisons, are eligible.

Session 3: Figurational sociology

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 15:30-17:30
Chair: Stephen Mennell, University College Dublin, Ireland, stephen.mennell@ucd.ie
RC 20 is pleased to accommodate a session organised by the Working Group on Figurational Sociology. The aim of this session is to propose new theoretical and empirical works on the civilising process and other Eliasian themes.
