RC34 Sociology of Youth, in cooperation with the Catalan Youth Observatory, organized sessions on youth theories and its influence in public debates. These sessions will constitute the second part of a conference on European youth policies “Forever Young” organised by the University of Salerno, Italy, June 2008. The objectives of the conference are:
- Revisiting schools: Chicago school, Structural-functionalism, Birmingham School, Post-subcultural studies, etc.
- Revisiting authors: S.G. Hall, M. Mead, K. Mannheim, A. Gramsci, T. Parsons, E. Erikson, S. Hall, P. Willis, P. Bourdieu, U. Beck, M. Maffesoli, M. Castells, Z. Bauman, etc.
- Revisiting theories for the XXI century: Youth and globalization, individualization, digitalism, networking, empowerment, embodiment, social capital, etc.
- Revisiting the influence of youth theories in public debates, in the global and in the local contexts (special sessions will be devoted to youth research in Catalonia and Spain).
