The Japan Sociological Society was established in 1924
to promote and to develop sociological studies, and has been the only
nationwide organization of Japanese sociology since its founding.
Activities
The JSS covers a variety of activities such as: holding annual meetings
(normally either at the end of October or at he beginning of November
for two days) and building networks with international academic associations
such as the International Sociological Association and the IIS (International
Institute of Sociology).
Publications
Shakaigaku Hyoron (Japanese Sociological
Review), four issues per year in Japanese.
International Journal of Japanese Sociology (ISSN 0918-7545), published
annually in English.
The Bibliography of Japanese Sociological Literature in Foreign Languages
1998 (ISSN 1340-4695 vii +169 pages) is now available from the
JSS. This is a bibliography of publications in sociology written by members
of the JSS. To each publication, one or two "key words" are included to
help the reader grasp the general contents. This volume also includes
some information about societies and associations in Japan which focus
on sociological studies.
