About National Associations
The International Sociological Association has a bicameral organization. On
the one side there is the Research Council with delegates from the Research
Committees, and on the other side there is the Council of National
Associations (CNA) with delegates from all the National Associations. At
each Congress of the ISA, held every 4 years, the CNA elects 8 members to
the ISA Executive Committee. These 8 members together with the
Vice-President for National Associations and two others elected from the
Executive Committee form the National Association Liaison Committee that
effectively represents the National Associations and other Collective
Members of the Association between Congresses.
The CNA also holds a conference of its own every 4 years, specifically for
National Associations. The next one will be held in Taiwan in 2009.
Our aim is that this website for National Associations will inform its
visitors about the interesting and various sociologies to be found around
the world. Apart from the collection of basic data on each association we
are hoping to display features from each country films, narrative
histories, interesting projects, etc. -- that you can submit to us for your
webpage. We also encourage the organization of regional conferences and we
will also announce these on the website. If anyone has ideas for the
further development of this website don't hesitate to get in touch with
Michael Burawoy, ISA, Vice-President for National Associations at
burawoy@berkeley.edu.
