Next Generation Sociologists Grant

For Starting Scholar's Active Participations in Yokohama

The Japanese Local Organizing Committee for the XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology invites all the next generation of sociologists in East Asia who are participating in the conference to apply for the grant. The applicants must currently be the members of the

We are pleased to provide this opportunity for the future sociologists in East Asia thanks to generous donations from the individual members of the Japan Sociological Society.

A) Travel Grant for Starting Sociologists in East Asia
The JSS will provide Travel Grant for starting scholars in East Asia for their participation in Yokohama. This is to further encourage academic activities and exchanges with KSA, CSA, and TSA which have official academic exchange agreements with JSS. A total of 20 applicants will receive JP¥25,000 each.

Eligibility

An applicant must:

  1. submit online an abstract by September 30, 2013 and be accepted as a regular session presenter
  2. pay registration fee to XVIII ISA World Congress by April 1, 2014
  3. be within 10 years of receiving master's (or equivalent) degree at the end of June 2014
  4. be living away from Japan
  5. be a member of either KSA, CSA, or TSA. Citizenship is not part of the eligibility requirement.

The JLOC will select the grant awardees based on the abstract. The grant will be provided after successful presentation at the XVIII ISA World Congress in July 2014.

NOTE: If you are a member of JSS, you can make an application for the Grant for JSS Starting Scholars (see below). You are, however, entitled to receive only one of the two grants.

B) Grant for JSS Starting Sociologists
JSS will provide Grant for JSS starting scholars for their participation in Yokohama. This is to further encourage active participations of JSS members who have just started their career as sociologists. A total of 100 applicants will receive JP¥10,000 each.

Eligibility

An applicant must:

  1. submit online an abstract by September 30, 2013 and be accepted as a regular session presenter
  2. pay registration fee to XVIII ISA World Congress by April 1, 2014
  3. be within 10 years of receiving master's (or equivalent) degree at the end of June 2014
  4. be a member of the Japan Sociological Society. Your citizenship and country of residence are not part of the eligibility requirements.

The JLOC will select the grant awardees based on the abstract. The grant will be provided after successful presentation at the XVIII ISA World Congress in July 2014.
