Current position

Professor of Sociology and currently Director of the Center for the Sociological Study of the Arts and Culture, Department of Sociological Theory, University of Barcelona. He has also taught at the University Complutense of Madrid and the University of de Buenos Aires.
He has been chercheur associé at the Centre de Sociologie des Arts (EHESS, Paris), Visiting Research Fellow at the New School (USA), Visiting Professor at the University of Exeter (UK), and Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge (UK).

Organizational experience
ISA Executive Committee Member from 2002. Former President of the ISA Research Committee on Sociology of the Arts. Current President of the Spanish Association for the Sociology of Culture and the Arts (AESCA), and Coordinator of the corresponding Research Committee at the Spanish Sociological Federation. He has been Director of the International Conference The Culture Society: A New Place for the Arts in the Twenty-First Century (ISA RC37 and AESCA, Barcelona, 2000), and Program coordinator of RC37 World Congress of Sociology, Brisbane, 2002.
