Project leader of three National Research Foundation-funded research projects on (1) Aids, Sex and Society, (2) Whistleblowing in Africa and (3) Citizenship and Social Capital: Exploring Struggles over Social Space and Inclusion.

Member of Editorial Boards of Society in Transition, The African Journal of Business Ethics and The Social Work Practitioner. Member of the International Advisory Panel of the British Journal of Sociology and of the International Council of Freedom to Care , an NGO in the UK that promotes public accountability and supports whistleblowers.
