Professor of Sociology, Chair in Family, Gender and Society, since 1996.

Major research orientation: International perspectives on gender and families, family policies and family life. Currently directing a research programme on Family Ties Between Generations. Transfers of Material and Social Support among Individuals in Different Family Forms Recently finalised a cross national study on welfare policy and employment in the context of family change. Currently leading the development of an interdisciplinary and international research programme on asylum seeking children in Europe.

National assignments: Member of the Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences 2004-06. President of the Swedish Sociological Association 2000-04. Member of the steering committee for Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at Göteborg University. Member of the board of Centre for European Research at Göteborg University and of Centre for Global Gender Studies. Member of evaluation committees on various research councils in Sweden.
International assignments: President of the Local Organising Committee for the XVII ISA World Congress of Sociology, Goteborg, 2010. President of the research network on Families and intimate lives of the European Sociological Association 1999-2003. Member of the board of the European Sociological Association 1998-2002. Swedish expert in the European Observatory on family matters in the commission of Europe 1995-2000. Member of the editorial committee for Current Sociology and of European Societies. Organized several international conferences. Have had several assignments for evaluations of applicants for professorships in UK , Italy , Ireland.
