Abstract

The present study aim to examine the youth political participation in democratic practices in two provinces of Pakistan, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The main theory is Public sphere (Jurgen Habermas) which indicates that public sphere is an integral part of democracy, a social space in which citizens can engage in political activities pertinent to the public interest. Secondly a supportive theory of Democratic Practice and Democratic Theory (Bernard R. Berelson) states that democratic citizen is expected to be interested and to participate in political affairs under some interests. The research will be based on mix methodology qualitative and quantitative methodology that allows one to gain in-depth understanding of the issue. A semi-structured interview schedule and questionnaire will be used to collect data from the respondents. The respondents will be selected through simple random sampling technique. The universe of the study will be limited to two provinces from Pakistan and a sample of total 400 respondents will be selected for the research purpose. Statistical analysis tools and thematic qualitative research techniques including discourse and interpretivists’ analyses approaches will be used to analyze the data. This research is expected to give benefits to the importance of youth in political structure and it also an advantage for political parties to include youth as a main theme in their party policy in Pakistan.
