SSIS Monograph Issues of Current Sociology
Preparing a Proposal for Review

From 2001, there are two extra issues per year of the journal Current Sociology devoted to SSIS monograph issues. These issues provide an important publications outlet, particularly for edited collections from Research Committees, Research Council conferences. National and Regional Associations (including language communities) and ISA World Congress meetings.

The monograph issues contain selections of papers chosen for their scientific merit, international representativeness and relevance to the theme which the issue is addressing. There should be a strong Introduction and/or Conclusion which explores and develops the theme for the issue. Monograph issues typically contain about seven or eight papers and have a maximum page length of 212 printed journal pages. All proposals will be refereed by members of the Editorial Board (made up of Research Committee Presidents) and the series editor.

Proposals should be submitted in order to be refereed. Proposals should include:

  • a full copy of the Introduction and/or Conclusion which explains, explores and develops the theme/s for the issue. This will probably be written by the editor/s of the proposed monograph issue.
  • a copy of all the abstracts for papers to be included in the issue. Each abstract should be no longer than one page (A4) in length.
  • a list of names, positions and geographical locations of the editor/s and all the contributors. Names should also be included on the abstracts.
  • 4 copies of all the above.

SSIS monograph issues of Current Sociology are published in English and should include abstracts in French and Spanish. Proposal editors are asked to specify how they will provide these abstract translations.

When proposals are received, these will be sent for refereeing to two members of the Editorial Board (made up of Research Committee Presidents) and the series editor. It is intended to be able to inform issue editor/s within three months of the outcome of the refereeing process.

Where proposals are recommended for publication as SSIS monograph issues of Current Sociology, then issue editors will receive a set of Sage guidelines about preparing a manuscript for publication. Editors will also be given a proposed publication date and a preparation timetable. It is then the responsibility of the issue editors to keep to the preparation timetable in preparing the manuscript for publication.

Proposals for monograph issues should be submitted to the Editor:
