Director of Peace Studies
New York University Abu Dhabi
United Arab Emirates
Applications: January 15, 2013

New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi is inviting applications from distinguished scholars to serve as director of its new Peace Studies Program. Applicants should have a strong record of scholarly and administrative leadership in the study of peace. Peace Studies at NYU Abu Dhabi is a multi-disciplinary enterprise for teaching and research. Applicants are encouraged to apply from a wide variety of fields, but scholars from the fields of political science, psychology, economics and history are particularly encouraged to apply. Duties of the director include teaching, curriculum development, management of the centerís research resources, leading the search for and hiring of additional faculty and organizing visits from distinguished peace scholars from around the world. These areas of research will complement strong, existing programs developed by local NYU Abu Dhabi faculty and faculty from NYU in New York.

New York University has established itself as a Global Network University, a multi- site, organically connected network encompassing key global cities and idea capitals. The network has three degree-granting campuses - New York, Shanghai, and Abu Dhabi - complemented by 12 additional academic centers across five continents. Faculty and students will circulate within the network in pursuit of common research interests and cross-cultural, interdisciplinary endeavors, both local and global.

Now in its third year, NYU Abu Dhabi has recruited a cohort of faculty who are distinguished in their research and teaching. Our students are drawn from around the world and surpass all traditional recruitment benchmarks, both US and global. NYU Abu Dhabiís highly selective liberal arts enterprise is complemented by an institute for advanced research, sponsoring cutting-edge projects across the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Engineering.

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing as well as educational subsidies for children. Faculty may also spend time at NYU New York and other sites of the global network, engaging in both research and teaching opportunities. The appointment might begin as soon as September 1, 2013, but candidates may elect to start as late as September 1, 2014.

Selection will begin January 15, 2013; applications received after this date are not guaranteed consideration but may be reviewed until the positions are filled. We will consider senior candidates on a rolling basis. Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests (not to exceed three pages each), no more than three representative publications. Please visit our website at http://nyuad.nyu.edu/about/careers/faculty-positions.html for instructions and other information on how to apply. If you have any questions, please e-mail nyuad.socialscience@nyu.edu.
