Teaching stream position in the City Studies program

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the City Studies program. The position will be at the rank of Lecturer and will commence July 1, 2010. Applicants must have a PhD in hand at the time of appointment, or be near completion.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Toronto, Scarborough has a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and programs. City Studies is situated in the Department of Social Sciences and the successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and in developing pedagogic approaches drawing on different disciplines that examine urban issues.

She/he will be expected to teach one or more foundation courses in City Studies that draw together theories and methods from different fields of urban knowledge, to develop senior undergraduate courses relating to his or her area of expertise, and to maintain and expand existing community service learning and co-op initiatives in the program. Additional duties may include student advising and administrative responsibilities.

Appointments at the rank of Lecturer maybe renewed annually to a maximum of five years. The normal teaching load for a lecturer is 3 FCE, or six semester-length courses per year. In the fifth year of service, Lecturers shall be reviewed and a recommendation made with respect to promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer, which is a continuing position.
