Objectives
The general objective of Research Committee 45 on Rational Choice is to advance the development of Rational Choice Theory. This includes its application to various explanatory problems across social science disciplines, its empirical test, its theoretical development and comparison with alternative approaches. The Rc tries to achieve this general objective by promoting the international exchange of scientific information across disciplinary borders.

Best Student Paper Award


Best Student Paper Award 2016 Edition
The award is intended to provide motivation and recognition to promising young scholars in the field of rational choice theory, as well as to encourage growing graduate students’ interest and participation in the International Sociological Association and the Research Committee on Rational Choice.

The 2016 edition of the prize has been won by Joel Berger, MA in Sociology at ETH Zurich, and Benita Combet, MA in Sociology at the University of Bern for the paper:
Late School Tracking, Less Class Bias in Educational Decision-Making? The Uncertainty Reduction Mechanism and Its Experimental Testing

The winners will receive an award of USD 500 and will be acknowledged at the awarding ceremony of RC45 during the ISA Forum of Sociology in Vienna, July 2016.
