1. TITLE OF STATUTES

Statutes of Research Committee 02 on Economy and Society

2. ARTICLE I.: NATURE OF RESEARCH COMMITTEE 02

a) RC02 has been established in 1978 in accordance with Article XI of the ISA Statutes;
b) The RC02 raises its own funds within academics conducting research in the topics of the interface between Economics and Sociology;
c) The RC02 administers its own funds in accordance with Article XI of the ISA Statutes.

3. ARTICLE II.: OBJECTIVES OF RC02

a) To promote the development of the theory and practice of the sociology of economic life;
b) To provide research and promote meetings in the field of the sociology of economic activity at all national, regional and international levels;
c) To provide information on significant developments in this filed, particularly through scholarly publications;
d) To unite the professional qualities, social consciousness and experience of its members for work on the problems of the sociology of economic activities throughout the world.

4. ARTICLE III.: ACTIVITIES IN WHICH RC02 ENGAGES IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE ITS OBJECTIVES

a) Information exchange between the members throughout the diffusion of Newsletters and the RC02 web site.
b) International scientific communication particularly throughout the organization of international conferences and seminars;
c) Participation in ISA World Congress;
d) Promotion of publication activities resulting from conferences and congress;
e) Organizational activities

5. ARTICLE IV.: MEMBERSHIP IN RC02

a) Members can be individuals and / or institutions;
b) Membership rights empower the members:
-To vote in elections of RC02 officers and statute revisions
- To participate in scientific activities
- To receive the Newsletter of RC02;
c) The members are obliged:
- To observe the Statutes
- To carry out conscientiously the tasks entrusted to them by the General Meeting, special committees or RC02 officers.
- To pay membership dues to the amount of $50 (full members) and $25 (students and members of developing and East European countries) for a full 4-years term.

6. ARTICLE V.: GOVERNING BODIES OF RC02

a) An executive Committee composed of the President, Immediate past Presidents, the Executive Secretary, the Treasurer and six members representing different geographical areas;
b) Ad hoc committees for specific functions (like international conferences and seminars).

7. ARTICLE VI: ELECTORAL PROCEDURES OF RC02

a) The term of office: the Executive Committee is elected for a 4-year period, between the world congress;
b) Elections are conducted by e-mail and regular mail within paid-up members;
c) In the interim period between the elections the Executive Committee can replace governing officers.

8. ARTICLE VII: RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS OF THE GOVERNING BODIES

a) The President represents the RC within the ISA, and is responsible for the implementation of the RC mandates;
b) The Executive Secretary is responsible for the keeping-up of the members list, the recruitment of new members, correspondence the publication of the Newsletter; and the RC02 web page.
c) The Treasurer is responsible for the collection of funds and payment of bills.

9. ARTICLE VIII: FINAL REGULATIONS

a) a) An earlier version of these statutes were adopted at the XIIITH World Congress of Sociology and through a complementary mail consultation with the members who were not present at the Congress; They have been revised in 2003.
b) The Statutes may be amended at any time by a majority of the members through the request of 25 members to the Executive Committee and by a special vote through the mail and email.
