Deadlines and rules for submitters

The XX ISA World Congress of Sociology will be in a hybrid format:
   - Oral sessions will be a mix of in-person and virtual presenters, based on the presenters preference.
   - Roundtable Sessions (concurrent running roundtable presentations in one room) will have in-person format only
   - Poster Sessions will have in-person format only.

Abstract submission

Participants must submit abstracts on-line to a selected session of a Research Committee, Working Group, Thematic Group through a centralized platform.

  • Select session. List of sessions are available in the relevant Research Committee, Working Group and Thematic Group sections. Choose the RC/WG/TG session in which you wish the abstract to be included.
  • Submit abstract: from July 1 till September 30, 2022, 24:00 GMT
     

Please read before submitting your abstract:

  • One cannot submit more than two abstracts.
  • One cannot submit the same abstract to two different sessions.
  • The abstract text cannot contain more than 300 words and must be submitted in English, French or Spanish.
  • It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract; any errors in spelling, grammar, or scientific fact will be reproduced as typed by the author.
  • All changes/updates should be done via on-line system by September 30, 2022 24:00 GMT.
  • Once abstracts have been accepted, no changes in authorship and text can be made.
  • Author must specify a preferred format of presentation: on-site or virtual.
  • Each abstract received on-line will be assigned an identification number.
  • Only abstracts submitted on-line will be considered in the selection process.
  • Registration fees are the same for in-person and online presentations and cover participation in all types of sessions.
  • It will be possible to change from in-person to online presentation (and vice versa) until two weeks before the start of Congress.

    • authors and co-authors of accepted abstracts
    • authors of rejected abstracts

•    Applications for Registration Grants
ISA members in good standing, active participants in the program, are eligible to apply for a registration grant. Applications should be sent to the RC/WG/TG Program Coordinators by January 31, 2023.

March 22, 2023 24:00 GMT   

•     Registration deadline for presenters. Presenters who have failed to pay the registration fee will not be included in the program. For a co-authored paper, at least one co-author must pay the congress registration fee by the deadline March 22, 2023; the names of other co-authors will be listed as well. If other co-authors wish to attend the conference they must pay their registration fee.

Rules for submitters and presenters

ISA user account
To submit a session proposal and/or abstract, you need to create an ISA user account, unless you already have one. If in doubt, please contact isa-secretariat@isa-sociology.org
To create an ISA user account, go to https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/login and complete the form.

ISA membership
The ISA does not require anyone to be a member in order to submit a session proposal or abstract. Those RC/WG/TG which require presenters to be members, should state it clearly from the very start of conference preparations. ISA members benefit from a discount registration fee to the ISA World Congress.
To join the ISA, please submit an electronic membership form available on https://www.isa-sociology.org/en/membership/individual-membership. ISA membership does not include registration for the ISA World Congress.

Congress registration
To register for the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology, please complete the online registration form. Registration is now open. Registration deadline for presenters: March 22, 2023.
For a co-authored paper, at least one co-author must pay the congress registration fee by the deadline March 22, 2023; the names of other co-authors will be listed as well. If other co-authors wish to attend the conference they must pay their registration fee.
Registration fees are the same for in-person and online presentations and cover participation in all types of sessions.
It will be possible to change from in-person to online presentation (and vice versa) four weeks before the start of Congres
Registration for the ISA World Congress does not include ISA membership.

Registration grants

Limited appearance in the Program  
A person may be listed in the Program:
   -up to 3 times as session organizer
   -up to 2 times as author or co-author (oral or poster presentation, distributed paper, roundtable presentation)
   -up to 2 times as chair or co-chair, panelist, critic, discussant
RC/WG/TGs can further limit the number of appearances within their own sessions.
Authors and co-authors cannot present and chair in the same session.
There is a limit of:
   -3 co-organizers per session
   -7 authors per abstract

Additional information

    • Languages
The working language of the Congress is English. All printed materials will be in English. Most sessions will be in English, except some organized by the Research Committees, Working Groups and Thematic Groups that will be conducted in Spanish or French. Please check the program.
Simultaneous translation in English, French and Spanish will be provided only for the Opening and Closing Presidential Sessions.

    • Roundtable sessions
Five concurrent running round tables are set up at the same time and in the same room, with 5-6 presenters at each table.  

    • Distributed papers
Distributed papers should be treated like any regular conference papers except that normally they are not presented. Only if a scheduled presenter of a regular paper does not show up, the first participant listed under distributed papers will be asked to present his/her paper.
Distributed papers will be listed in the program and their abstracts will be included in the Abstracts Book, providing an author (or at least one co-author) pays a registration fee in time

Authors of distributed papers shall upload their papers into the online program platform.

    • Poster presentation
Abstracts of poster presentations should be submitted on-line to selected RC/WG/TG sessions; please state it is for a poster presentation. It is up to each Research Committee, Working Group and Thematic Group to organize poster sessions.
The size of accepted posters should be no larger than must be no larger than 850mm wide x 2000mm high (33.46 x 78.74 inches)

    • Full papers submission
ISA does not collect nor publish papers presented at its conferences. Each Research Committee, Working and Thematic Group establishes its own rules on full papers submissions. Please contact your Session Organiser for further instructions.

    • Letter of acceptance
For a letter stating that your paper has been accepted for presentation, please contact directly your Session Organizer.

    • Certificates
Certificates for authors (oral presentations and distributed papers), panellists, chairs and session organizers will be available for downloading at the Speaker’s Corner after the conference.
