Structure of Entries

Each article should contain several elements. Please structure the article following the indicated order. If the article does not meet these requirements, the editorial board of Sociopedia.isa cannot take it into account.

Some general remarks:

  • Length: the article should not exceed 7,000 words in total, excluding the bibliography.
  • References: should be added in the Harvard style. Since the article is published online, no footnotes can be published.
  • Language: The article is written in English. Non-native English speakers need to make sure their article is written in correct English. It is recommended that non-native speakers have their articles checked by a native speaker.
  • Abstracts in French & Spanish: The English abstract needs to be accompanied by a French and Spanish abstract. The author needs to make sure these translations are exact copies of the English abstract.
  • Optional: The article is written in English. Non-native English speakers need to make sure their article is written in correct English. It is recommended that non-native speakers have their articles checked by a native speaker.

At the beginning of your article, use the five following elements:

  • Title: one short simple and descriptive title is required.
  • Key-words: approximately five key words.
  • Abstract (English): a description of what the article is about in one short paragraph of approximately 100 words.
  • Abstract (French & Spanish): abstracts must be translated into French and Spanish. The author is responsible for handing in the translations.

The core of the article should be structured in the following way:

  • Overview of theoretical approaches.
  • Review of empirical evidence.
  • Assessment of research to date.
  • Discussion of future direction that theorizing and research might take.

Finish up the article with the following three elements:

  • References cited.
  • Annotated suggested further reading (“Read this article because …”).
  • A short author biography of approximately three sentences.

Referring to entries:

  • Mention both the title and the link to the entry. For instance: Jacobs, Susie. 2010. "Agrarian Reform" in Sociopedia.isa
