ISA endorses the statement from SBS about the murder of sociologist Marielle Franco

It is with regret and consternation that the Brazilian Society of Sociology (SBS) manifests to its members and to the entire Brazilian society its deep sadness for the murder of the  councilwoman Marielle Franco (PSOL-Rio de Janeiro). It is a brutal crime of a young sociologist and human rights activist, committed to social justice and to the fight against the abuses of daily violence, especially that suffered by black women and the population living in the most vulnerable communities of the city of Rio de Janeiro .

It's time to mourn and sympathize with her family, friends and co-workers.

The SBS claims the immediate solution of the murder of an elected councilwoman in full exercise of her political functions. It also repudiates similar acts that threaten the Brazilian Democratic State of Law, guided by principles and values that guarantee the right to difference, respect and protection of life and freedom to criticism.
