ISA World Congress of Sociology
Registration
Registration for the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology opens on December 4, 2026.
The XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology will be an on-site event only, and we look forward to welcoming you to Gwangju, Korea! There will be no options to present or attend online; please plan accordingly.
The Conference System sends notification letters to Authors and co-authors of accepted abstracts and Authors of rejected abstracts on December 4, 2026. Please consult the Guidelines and Deadlines here.
To be included in the program, all participants (including presenters, chairs, discussants, etc.) must complete their registration by paying full registration fees no later than March 23, 2027. If not registered, their names will not appear in the Program Book and Abstracts Book. Only participants listed in the final programme may present at the Congress.
Registration fees vary depending on your membership status with the International Sociological Association, your country of residence, and your membership category (Regular, Student, or Life Member).
Non-member students are eligible for a special registration fee. To apply for this status, you must submit your application through your ISA account attaching your proving documentation.

Registration Policies
The International Sociological Association is committed to providing all participants at the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology with a welcoming and inclusive environment. By registering for or participating in the #ISAWCS27, or in any ISA Event (e.g. Council of National Associations Conference, PhD. Lab, ISA Forum of Sociology), you declare that you have read and understand the Code of Conduct, the Liability Waiver and Travel Responsibility Clause, and the Photography and Video Material waiver. Cancellations and Refund Policy
Registrations made before March 23, 2027:
- Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to isa@isa-sociology.org.
- Cancellations will be accepted until 5 May 2027 (23:59 UTC/GMT). The total amount will be refunded, less a €20 cancellation fee, regardless of the reason for cancellation.
- Registrations may be transferred to another colleague at no additional cost until March 23, 2027.
- Party tickets are not refundable on their own. Refunds are only possible if the full registration is cancelled.
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations received from 6 May 2027 (UTC/GMT) onwards, regardless of the reason, as final participant numbers will have been confirmed with local providers and costs incurred.
Refund processing:
- Credit card payments will be refunded to the original card within 7 days after confirmation of the cancellation.
- Bank transfer payments require submission of a bank details form. Refunds will be processed within 30 days after the Congress ends.
Registrations made after March 23, 2027, are non-refundable.
Companions Policy
The ISA supports work-life balance and encourages the participation of parents attending the Congress.
Children under 18 years of age may accompany registered participants free of charge. They must be registered on site at the ISA desk when the participant collects their badge. A companion badge will be issued, indicating the name of the registered parent or guardian, and must be worn at all times to access the venue. Proof of age (e.g. ID) may be requested where necessary.
Childcare services will be available at an additional cost. Further information will be provided separately.
All companions aged 18 and over must purchase an access pass. A limited number of companion passes are available on site at the ISA desk:
- €70 per day
- €150 full week
Companions (both minors and adults) are granted access to the venue only and do not receive a delegate kit or any certificate of attendance. Due to space limitations, companions are not permitted to attend the Opening Ceremony or the Welcome Party.
Access to the Congress venue is strictly limited to badge holders. No person without a badge will be admitted.
